 Come to a special event on Thursday, September 11, 2003! We are proud to announce the dedication of the St, Joseph County community's Freedom Memorial: "Standing Tall" which remembers those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 when America was attacked. Contributors for the erection of this monument and for the replacement of trees that our County Parks lost during the ice storms and tornadoes over recent years came from businesses, organizations, families and individuals from all over our community. Dedication ceremonies will take place at the new entrance to St. Patrick's County Park. starting at 10:00 a.m. See additional details below:

To the left are views of the construction and installation of the memorial "Standing Tall" by students and staff of Ivy Tech College, South Bend campus. Our artist/designer of "Standing Tall," Bob Kuntz, stands in the middle of the top left photo, along with Don Sporleder of our Board to his left and Howard Goodhew to his right. Howard Goodhew, long time member and one of the founders of the St. Joseph County Parks Foundation, introduced the idea of creating the memorial and helped organize the fund drive along with Judy Olson, a long-time member of the St. Joseph County Parks Board. Below the monument will be placed a section of a steel beam that was taken from the collapsed World Trade Center.

Dedication ceremonies begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the entrance to St. Patrick's County Park, near the park's entrance off Laurel Road and due east of the gatehouse on the east side of the park road.
