Start encouraging your plants to open their buds for the show weekend! Make a list of your plants for our exhibit and send them to Ron & Katie Payeur. We always need extra foliage plants, too. Label any sales plants with your initials and price. Items for our hospitality food service might include salads, veggies, casseroles, chips, brownies, cookies, pop, juice, breakfast rolls and fruit. We’ll need lots of help in many areas---any and all volunteers will be appreciated!

We need all the publicity we can get! Thanks!
Good news from Ron
Update on the PPM meter- the one that wasn't
working at our last meeting. Rick was right. After
drying out for several days, the meter is again operable. Perhaps we can
do the water sample testing at the January meeting.
Minutes
The
October MOS meeting at the River Park Branch Library was called to order by
vice president John Bannow. Seventeen were present, including two guests
who joined our orchid group before they left. Welcome Sue Voelker and
Don Keim! The minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report,
both printed in the Newsletter, were accepted as printed. Ann Kuntz,
librarian, discussed two new books recently added to the MOS collection.
Long time member Harry Moscowitz is recuperating from recent surgery. We
wish him speedy recovery.
A
Nominating Committee was formed that included Shirley, Ron, and Sylvia.
They will organize a slate of officers for 2007 that will be voted on at the
December meeting. Katie and Ron will obtain inorganic potting mixes of
Haydite and Diatomite from Rob in
A
great deal of business for our upcoming Orchid Show was discussed.
Trophy sponsors are needed -- $15.00 a trophy. Contact Deb Longworth,
treasurer, if you can sponsor a trophy. Deb also made new "flyers"
using the MOS logo. It was suggested that placing one in your car window
behind the passenger seat would help spread the word about the show. Sign up
sheets for various show committees were passed. Publicity help is
greatly needed. Greg will update our website with the help of Shirley and
Ron. Jean Moscowitz will contact
Vendors
coming to the show include Green Acres, Hilltop, New Vision, Littlefrog Farm,
and Orchid Outlet. Set up will be Friday, November 10 starting at 3:00
pm. Send names of plants you are exhibiting to Ron ahead of time
so he can make tags before that Friday. Katie will be in
charge of registration. Audio visual materials are needed for
display. Classes and/or demonstrations can be held in a classroom after
AOS judging is finished. If you have suggestions for a demo, or can help in
this area, please contact Sandy or Sylvia.
Bring
and Brag: Lovely orchids were shown by Sylvia Groat, John Bannow, and
Sherry Burchett.
Katie
Payeur presented a program on water quality. She asked "What is pure
water?" Good water is most important in growing orchids, but how can
we tell what is in the water we use? Katie discussed the results of
water samples from the water they use for their orchids in
The
meeting adjourned for refreshments at 3:15.
