ORCHID MOUNTING WORKSHOP

AT MOS MEETING APRIL 8!

Do your orchids complain that you don’t repot them often enough? Do your roots rot because of broken-down potting medium? (Well, not YOUR roots, your plants’ roots.) Do you yearn to see those beautiful fresh roots rambling free? Get out of the repotting rut and learn how to mount your plants on natural cork or other suitable material. Come to the April 8 meeting of the Michiana Orchid Society and member Katie Payeur will guide you through the whole process, from selecting plants and materials, how to do the mounting, and how to care for mounted plants. Bring your questions!

The Michiana Orchid Society will meet on April 8 at 1:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time at the River Park Branch of the South Bend Public Library on Mishawaka Avenue. Guests are welcome and refreshments will be served. See you there!

This would be a good time for members who have extra plants to bring them for sale. Shirley

INDY SHOW

The two Indianapolis orchid societies---Hoosier Orchid Society and Indiana Orchid Society---have merged to form the Central Indiana Orchid Society. The new Central Indiana Orchid Society will host its spring show at Glendale Mall in Indianapolis on April 1-2, and Michiana will be represented. Ron, Katie, Brittany, Deb and Sandy will make the trip to Indy to set up our society exhibit and participate in judging on Saturday. Plants will be sent by Ron, Katie, Brittany, Deb, Sandy, Sylvia and Barb W. (Welcome back, Barb!)

The Payeurs will take down our display on Sunday, aided by Rick, who will be driving non-stop from Florida to help out. What our members go through for orchids!

***The Central Indiana Orchid Society will also have a show at the Indiana State Fair in late summer. Let’s get together and make the trip down to Indy to set up a display and enjoy the fair.

***The Chicagoland Orchid Festival will be held on September 22-24, 2006. ROAD TRIP!!!

***Put our fall show on your calendar, too!

Minutes for March Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 1:45. Minutes and Treasures Report were approved as published. Two guests were introduced. Deb stated that dues are due and could be paid at the meeting or by mail. Updates of addresses, phone numbers, etc. are needed for the membership list. There will be a demonstration on potting and mounting as a program at the next meeting. Sandy’s Orchid Class at Holy Cross will be starting soon. It was voted to order the book on Masds. to add to the club library. Ann is compiling a list of the books in the library to post on the website. Members could email Ann to ask her to bring a specific book to the meeting, which would eliminate bringing all the books every time. Ann passed around fliers on other books available for the library. There was discussion on display in Ann Arbor. MOS will enter a display at the Indianapolis Show. We will set up a display and have our May meeting at Fernwood. Meeting adjourned at 2:30. Rob from Little Frog Farm presented a program and offered plants for sale. Refreshments were served.
