SEE THEM IN APRIL!

The April 9, 2005, meeting of the Michiana Orchid Society will feature an American Orchid Society slide show:  “Surviving Orchids of the Northeastern United States.”   Join us on Saturday, April 9 at 1:30 to see and hear about the native orchids all around us….no, that doesn’t mean in your living room or in your greenhouse…these hardy orchids need our freezing winter weather to complete their life cycles and renew themselves each spring.  These native gems will amaze you with their delicate forms, delightful colors and will to survive.  Learn a bit about our temperate orchid habitat at the River Park Branch of the South Bend Public Library on Mishawaka Avenue.  See you there!

ORCHID CLASS AT HOLY CROSS YIELDS NEW MOS MEMBERS!

Sandy’s Continuing Education class on Orchids at Holy Cross College was well-attended by enthusiastic orchid novices eager to learn more about our orchid hobby (read:  addiction).  They learned about the many orchid families, the epiphytic nature of most orchids, growth and structure, culture, repotting and orchid media….they even repotted a couple dozen of Sandy’s phrags!  Each student received a mini-catt (Potinara Afternoon Delight x Cattleya aurantica) and a Doritis pulcherrima variety champornensis to care for in their homes.  Five of these enthusiastic students have signed up for membership in the Michiana Orchid Society.  New members from this class include:  Lynette Delahanty, Michele Jensen, Suzanne Salisbury, Elizabeth Strantz and Jo Wells.  Please welcome these new members when they come to our meetings!

SHOW BIZ

The spring show season continues with the Hoosier Orchid Society Show in Indianapolis the weekend of April 2-3 and also the Ann Arbor Orchid Society Show in Ann Arbor on April 16-17.   Collect your blooming plants and let’s plan to exhibit at these orchid shows.
