Congressmember Chris Chocola:
100 Suite East Wayne Street
South Bend, IN 46601
Dear Rep. Chocola:
We appreciated meeting last week with your able assistants Marcus Barlow and
Cory Martin in the South Bend office.
We remain concerned about your lack of active efforts to bring the war in
Iraq to a close. It is not enough just to use the war to bring jobs to
Indiana. There is a net economic loss to the state from war expenditures.
Not only that, but we are not more secure as the daily suicide bombing
events of the past two weeks point out only too well.
The war is not "just over there". It affects all of us, through worry
about
and losses of our friends and family worry about protection here at home for
natural disasters with so many National Guard gone, through our forced
complicity in an unwanted aggression upon another country, and through the
loss of economic solvency.
We do not wish to have more troops and civilians die just to avoid
embarrassing ourselves over the prior l900+ deaths. Find a spin to get out
now with dignity preserved. But help to get us out.
We have attached the list of the US dead from the past two weeks. The
number of US wounded and the number of civilians killed is each
approximately 9 times that number.
We obtain these numbers from the website www.cnn.com/specials/2003/iraq.
We ask that you strongly urge the Congress to order an immediate plan for
troop withdrawal.
Sincerely yours,
Ellyn Stecker for the Michiana Peace and Justice Coalition
