Dear Senator Bayh,
We hope that you and your family and staff are well and secure. We hope that you and they never have to experience the type of horror that the United States ordered in a rural village in northern Pakistan this past week.
The killing of so many innocent villagers in order to kill an Al-Qaida hotshot is disgusting and outrageous, particularly in this week when the administration will be touting its "respect for the sanctity of life". It is against international law and all standards of decency.
Please bring actions like this to an end. We also deplore the continued loss of life on all sides in Iraq. Our CNN site says "there have been 2,414 coalition deaths, 2,215 Americans, one Australian, 98 Britons, 13 Bulgarians, two Danes, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 26 Italians, one Kazakh, one Latvian, 17 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and 18 Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of January 15, 2006". Estimates of civilian deaths there range from 18,000 to over 100,000 thousand. Over l6, 000 US troops have been wounded and we apparently do not have enough resources to fund the VA system. We enclose a list of the last week's posted dead. We don't need any more traumas, either for our citizens for others.
Sincerely yours,
