Since
April 2003, over 400,000 people in Darfur have died as a result of a campaign
of genocide led by the government of Sudan.
The UN estimates that 100,000 people PER MONTH will soon be dying if nothing is done to stop the violence.
WE CAN STOP THIS GENOCIDE!!!
Write a letter to your senators and representatives* urging them to pass legislation that puts pressure on the
Sudanese government to reign in the soldiers and janjaweed militia, protect civilians, facilitate the safe return of
Darfurians to their home villages, and give all people of Darfur just access to
economic and political opportunities. They can do this by supporting
legislation that demands the following:
1) A UN oil embargo on Sudan
2) International Criminal Court (ICC)
indictments of
the 52 génocidaires
3) Targeted sanctions (frozen assets, travel ban)
on the 52 génocidaires
4) State-wide divestment from any companies that do
business in Sudan*

DIVEST FROM COMPANIES DOING
BUSINESS IN SUDAN!
The Indiana State
Teachers’ Retirement Fund and the Public Employee Retirement Fund of Indiana
have hundreds of millions of dollars invested in international companies that
do business with Sudan. These companies enable the Sudanese government to buy
advanced weaponry to perpetrate the genocide and provide moral and political
cover for the government.
By divesting from these companies, you can put pressure on
the government of Sudan to stop the violence and let in all international aid.
No American companies
have done business with Sudan since 1997. International companies, however,
still do business with Sudan. State and city pension funds have significant
holdings of these companies, which include Alcatel, ABB, PetroChina, Siemens,
Hyundai, and Taftnet.
Write to your senators and
representatives to urge them to author legislation
that prohibits investment of certain public funds in companies doing business
in Sudan.
