Dissent is Patriotic

  • Tax Day Vigil and Leafletting: April 15 is Tax Day. Members of Michiana Peace & Justice Coalition will be at the main post office in downtown South Bend from 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM. We will have flyers discussing the huge percentage of America's tax dollars that goes to war and the military. With 89% of the public believing that Iraq war spending is responsible for the economic problems in this country perhaps this is a good time to get this info disseminated. Please join us for an hour or two or as long as you can.

  • Next MPJC Meeting: MPJC will meet on Tuesday, May 13, at 7:00pm at KJ Cafe, across Main St. from the South Bend downtown library, 2 doors south of the phone company. All are welcome to attend. See button on left for the previous meeting minutes and click here for the next meeting agenda.

  • Write to Congress: We need to keep pressure on Congress to end the war. Click Here for the addresses:

  • FLOC Statement: MPJC recently endorsed this FLOC Statement from the Farm Labor Organizing Committee AFL-CIO as part of our position on immigration reform. We also endorsed the Mexico Solidarity Network Statement.

  • New "Cost of War" Brochure: Look at and print this 2 page brochure prepared by the Peace Not War faculty group at Saint Mary's College. It gives up to date information on the cost of the war in Iraq in dollars, lives, and other needs not met.

Area vigils against the war:

Note: Participants in our vigils are asked to abide by our Discipline for Peace Demonstrations
  • Every Saturday, 1:00-2:00pm Anti-War Vigil at the Cemetery corner of Cleveland and Grape Road near University Park Mall. We hope to bring home to the shoppers the reality of the war in Iraq. Bring signs and banners or use ours. The signs should oppose policies and avoid personal attacks on people. E.g., "Peace on Earth Means Now" "No More Preemptive War" "Warfare Out, Health Care In" "U.S. Out, U.N. In."

  • Every Monday, 5-6 pm -- Weekly South Bend Vigil at the Federal Building, Jefferson and Main to oppose war against Iraq. Bring your own sign or share ours. These are nonviolent protests. We show respect for all participants and passers-by. All who share our concerns are welcome to participate.
