PARTNERS IN LEARNING
Vol. 1:2 ~ Spring 1998
In 1997, 54 fatherhood programs in Indiana received
state funding to provide a wide range of support services to fathers and
families. Last October, about 250 Hoosiers participated in the second "Governor's
Conference on Fathers and Families." Clearly, the focus on fathers
is growing in our state, as it is across the country.
This groundswell of interest has resulted in a wide variety of fatherhood
programs that reach not only "traditional" dads, but teen fathers,
non-custodial fathers, fathers-to-be, incarcerated fathers, step-fathers,
and other father-figures.
Inside this issue, you'll find strategies for getting males involved
as well as highlights of a few programs from around the state.
While these programs look very different, they convey a common message
that validates what many dads have long known--when they are positively
involved, their children do better.
