First Baptist Christian School is a ministry of First
Baptist Church in Mishawaka, Indiana. The church was chartered
in 1867, thus providing the congregation with a rich heritage
and testimony touching three centuries. Over the years, First
Baptist has continued to maintain a faithful, fundamental
witness to the infallible Word of God and our Savior, Jesus
Christ. All faculty members are born-again believers called to
minister in Christian education.
FBCS was begun in 1977 by the current senior pastor, David
Miller. Starting with just 14 students in PK thru 2nd grade,
the school has expanded to classes from PK thru 12th grade.
While FBCS is an integral part of FBC, and is based upon the
historic Baptist doctrinal statement of
the church, some 70% of the student body are from other area
ministries.
FBCS is a member of the Indiana Association of Christian Schools
and the American Association of Christian Schools.
Facilities
FBCS
operates within the air-conditioned facilities of First Baptist
church. Each classroom is self-contained. A library, computer
lab, college-size gym for P.E. and athletic events, and a
large stage for school programs and
play productions provide for a well-rounded program.
Our Program
Classes are taught in a traditional classroom setting. Bible is
taught at every grade level along with weekly chapels
specifically designed for different grade levels.
Private music lessons are offered along with music classes for
all ages and a band program beginning in 5th grade.
Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten are learning-oriented with
children learning to read by
the completion of the Kindergarten year.
Our athletic programs include boys soccer and basketball and
girls volleyball and basketball
as well as cheerleading.
Our Philosophy
….is based upon the Biblical conviction that education cannot be
divided into the secular
and the sacred. The Bible teaches that God is Truth (Deut.
32:4) and that Jesus Christ,
His Son, is Truth (John 14:6). The Bible commands parents to
“Train up a child in the way
he should go…” (Prov. 22:6). An education ignoring God and His
Word and purporting
to be neutral can only become morally and spiritually
powerless. True education is training
by instruction and example in the truth and that requires the
Bible to be the foundation
of our school program (Prov. 9:9-10).
Our Goals
Spiritually
...to
acquaint
the student with his need of personal salvation through Jesus
Christ
and to help him grow in spiritual knowledge and grace (John
3:16-18; II Peter 3:18)
Mentally
...to
provide
a traditional program of the basics of education encouraging
students
to achieve their potential and
to apply
all that is learned in harmony with the Bible.
(Prov. 23:23, II Tim. 2:15)
Socially
...to
promote
understanding, concern, and character in the child’s
relationship to friends, parents, authority, and country (Rom.
12:17-18; I Pet. 2:13-17).
Physically
...to
develop
respect and understanding of the body, coordination and skill in
use of the body, and the practice of healthy living. |
